Isolation and Properties of Proteins in Ovarian Cystic Fluid of Patients with Ovarian Cancer

Abstract
In order to investigate the nature of proteins in cystic fluid of ovary in patients with ovarian cancer, proteins in the cystic fluid of serous and mucinous cystadenocar-cinoma were isolated and fractionated by a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and DEAE-cellulose column chromatography, and the results were compared with those obtained from the cystic fluid proteins in serous cyst, a simple ovarian cyst.
1. Protein concentration in the cystic fluid of serous and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma was unchanged as compared with that of serous cyst.
2. Proteins in the cystic fluid were isolated by a HPLC into 3 peaks each in serous cyst and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma and 4 peaks in serous cystadenoarcinoma.
3. Proteins in the cystic fluid were isolated by a DEAE-cellulose column chromatography into 5 peaks each in serous cyst and mucinous cystadenocarcinoma and 6 peaks in serous cystadenocarcinoma.
These results indicated that proteins specific to serous cystadenocarcinoma were present, which could be used as a biochemical marker for the ovarian cancer.
